ESOL Development Courses

Individual sessions, short programmes or longer-term courses available

ESOL teachers require a particualr knowledge-base and a particular set of skills. Derrin has trained ESOL tutors on Masters and Cambridge DELTA programmes as well as on over 40 Cambridge CELTA Courses.

Derrin delivers the following ESOL Development Courses:


All of these courses are designed to be delivered as a full one-day programme (4 x 1.5 hours) which is followed up by a consolidatory programme of online learning. Each of them, however, can also be condensed into a shorter delivery period OR combined with other courses from this and The Development Manager's other course categories (click the links in the right hand column) in order to extend into longer programmes of delivery.

S.B.R.E.V. - Step-Back and Rethink English Verbs
This will give participants a deeper understanding of how the English language tense and aspect systems really work.
Teaching Language as lexis within text
This session practical, fun session will train participants to focus on language as lexical chunks with text featuring as the core unit of language.
Exploiting texts in ESOL teaching
This ession trains participants to make the most out of the texts they have at their disposal.
An introduction to the social context of ESOL
This session raises awareness of the language needs and some of the cultural/social issues facing ESOL learners in Britain today.
Getting learners to speak
Attendance at this session will equip teachers to get their learners speaking genuinely and communicatively in their lessons
